The Egyptian Temple: An Unexpected Place

The Egyptians called their temple Hut, meaning “house of the god.” But it wasn’t a place for people to gather or pray—it was the private home of the gods, where they could rest and refresh themselves.
Temples were sacred spaces that told the story of the world’s creation.
Every day, the gods battled darkness to bring the sun back into the sky—each sunrise was like a new beginning!
At the center of the temple was the statue of the god. For the Egyptians, this wasn’t just a symbol: the statue was the god. Artistic creation had magical power. In fact, the word they used for “sculpture” meant “to give birth.”
