The ability to use new materials, such as steel, allowed architects and engineers to construct taller and taller buildings, reaching dizzying heights.
However, the great innovation that spurred the construction of taller and taller buildings was the invention of the elevator: in fact, the first safety elevator was created in 1882 (it doesn’t fall even if the cable breaks).
Architects, scientists and artists are increasingly inspired by nature, not only from an aesthetic point of view, but also in their search for solutions to practical or ecological problems.
